Dallas Cowboys Sean Lee Injured on First Day of OTA Practice

Sean Lee was injured during the first day of OTAs as the Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker engaged with first round draft pick Zack Martin in what was supposed to be non-contact drills.

According to John Middlekauff, “the Cowboys are fearing the worst. Source says it does not look good. LB Sean Lee will likely be out for the year.”
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter would later tweet that the team believes Lee sustained a torn ACL tear in the left knee.
Lee, 27, is scheduled to undergo an MRI at 5:00 p.m. today to determine the full extent of the injury to his left knee, but you have to feel for Lee who was taken off the field with the aid of two trainers after Martin blocked the injury-prone linebacker to the ground which elicited a string of profanities from the former Penn State linebacker.
Losing Lee for the entire season would be a disastrous blow for the Cowboys defense which is already short on talent and expected to once again be one of the worst units in the NFL this season. If there is a silver lining to this injury, it’s that there is ample time to sign a potential replacement for Lee or to develop one on the current roster to fill his absence in the middle of the defense.
Lee led the Cowboys with four interceptions last season despite missing five games. He missed 10 games in the 2012 season as the former second round pick has yet to play a full 16-game season during his four-year career and if Middlekauff’s source is correct, that string will run to a fifth straight season as it looks like the defensive leader of the Cowboys will be lost for the year with his left knee injury.
